Which patio roof type is more expensive?

I have a deck and connecting patio in my backyard. I so badly want a patio cover or screened-in deck with a ceiling fan. However, I am on a tight budget. Are vinyl patio covers more expensive than the standard roof type (the roof that matches the house's roof)? Will adding screen make a huge difference in price?

Thank you...by the way I live in Virginia.

In the long run, using materials that match the house will probably cost more and look better, however, any other option would not last as long. Yes screens will add to the cost, but work with a LOCAL trustworthy contractor who understands exactly what you want and at what price, he/she may even be able to give better input and offer better options as well. NOTE: Get everything in writing!!! good luck. by the way, I live outside Chicago.

Which is better for a patio cover--alumawood or vinyl? How does the cost compare?

That would depend on the climate in which you are building.

In colder temperatures I believe that alumawood would be best... vinyl may crack with extreme temperature changes. Aluminum backed by wood is less likely to bend under the weight of heavy snow.

Vinyl may be better in areas where the temprature is more constant... it is lighter and requires less maintenance. But also may be less sturdy in High winds.

I guess my vote would have to be alumawood.

vinyl tiles for my covered outdoor patio/balcony?

i hate the astro-turf down now, but i have not seen any examples of vinyl tiles being used on any flooring co. websites. is this generally not done? there are some nice faux stone tiles i think would look great, just want to make sure there isnt some simple reason why you dont do this. i live in hawaii, so no temp. changes all year. this is for my 3rd floor condo patio (14'x9.5') shade 70% of the day

i would not go with vinyl tile because they will fade badly in the sun and if they get too warm the adhesive will ooze out between the tiles. the only ones i could think of that might work is the ones the put on garage floors but they are more costly. there are a few companies that make a flexible sheet vinyl that doesn't have to be glued so the could expand and contract with the heat of the sun and the cooler temps at night .... i worked in floor covering for 10+ years but this is only my personal opinion

my patio set is too large to find a winter cover for, will a vinyl pool cover work?

here a link to the set:

Mangan, Fan Death, Yukon Blonde: BC musicians primed for 2010 success

Canwest News Service

VANCOUVER – To say Vancouver has a stellar music scene would be a gross understatement. From ambitious up-and-comers such as We Are the City all the way up to Nickelback, Billboard's group of the decade, the province seems to be a breeding ground for talent.

B.C. acts will no doubt continue to find success this year, on whatever level they're playing. Some are emerging artists just finding a fan base, others will hit their stride and take their sound to a wider audience this year, while a few will have a shot at going global.

With so much talent in the province, choosing just one to represent each stage of success is no easy feat. But that hasn't stopped us from trying, so here are our highlighted artists to watch in 2010.

Don't know them? You should. Already a fan? Hang on tight and watch them take off.

This just might be their year.
