Vehicle damages Lake Shawnee gazebo
A Lake Shawnee gazebo that is a common site for weddings was damaged early Wednesday when a car driven by a suspected drunken motorist ran off the route and struck it before crashing into an adjacent lily pond in Ted Ensley Gardens, authorities said.
Three people in the carrier were taken by American Medical Response ambulance to a resident hospital for treatment of injuries suffered in the crash, which occurred about 2:15 a.m. in S.E. 37th and West Edge Road.
Shawnee County sheriff’s Sgt. Todd Stallbaumer identified the car’s driver as Ibrahim J. M. Al Bureni, 29, of Self-rule.
Stallbaumer said Al Bureni was taken to Stormont-Vail Regional Well-being Center with injuries not considered to be life-threatening.
The two passengers were identified as Gabriel R. Kings, 22, of Moberly, Mo., and Eric D. Devney, 26, of Tekamah, Neb. Stallbaumer said both were bewitched with minor injuries to Stormont-Vail.
Al Bureni was cited for driving under the bias, transporting an open container and a stop sign attack, Stallbaumer said.
