How much to paint upper awnings on a 2 story house in Las Vegas?
Just the upper awnings - and my house is 2300 sf, to give you an idea of SF of awnings.
Some of you people who check this site don't believe in it. I do! I wouldn't take a quote to be gospel truth, but a painter could give me a general ballpark idea, you know?
Your best bet would be to check your Yellow Pages for local suppliers and ask them for a quote - that way you'll get a reliable idea from a professional, rather than just a stab-in-the-dark guess from someone who doesn't actually know. Good luck!
Have hornets under the awnings of my house how do i get rid of them????
We had the same problem. They love that area for some reason. Mine come back every single year.
There is an insect spray by "Bayer". We get it at Ace Hardware. This stuff is magic. We found it quite by accident. We had to spray twice. Do it at NIGHT because the hornets may attack you.
You don't need to spray directly on the hornet. Just spray the area. This stuff lingers and they hate it.
In my case, they kept building a nest in that area. I actually found the nest in my fabric lawn swing (back).
This Bayer insect spray formula has to be mixed with water. So, you will need a sprayer. They are about $10 at Walmart.
I would advise against the Raid sprays. You can get stung badly as they fight back.
This formula also got rid of all our crickets in one dose.
As with all pesticides, wear goggles and gloves and try not to inhale. I really don't like pesticides unless they are necessary, hornets are dangerous, they can sting repeatedly.
Again, do it in the Evening when they are calm and back at their nest.
Take care and good luck.
What is the best chemical and procedure for pressure washing parking lots, awnings and wood on houses etc?
WE would like to put our pressure washer to work and make a little extra cash. Can some one tell us the best chemicals and procesures to clean parking lots, houses, awnings? Thanks in advance for your time!
The very best chemical: water. Needs no cleanup, it's inexpensive, and few—if any—environmental consequences (except where water rationing is in effect). It works on most kinds of outdoor dirt.
The best technique is to determine how close the nozzle is from the surface before it begins to destroy it. Then back off 50% or more. This is the biggest danger of a pressure washer, even with things one might not think could be damaged. A marina I know has concrete docks with hundreds of 2 to 3 inch holes thanks to amateur power washing.
Awnings are not easy to thoroughly clean, and they are expensive to replace when damaged. I recommend you gain much experience with other items before attempting to power wash them.
My house, built in the 1940s, has metal retractable awnings on all of the windows.. How do I get rid of them?
those were very expensive when installed why not paint them if unsightly
more info or pic would be nice
and I could give advice on removal
How does the colors on walls affect how the house cools or heats?
I'm doing a school project for school and were suppossed to figure out how different things affect the rate of cooling in your home. Like which things will keep your house hot for the longest period of time. Also if you have any information about how any of the following slows the rate of cooling then that would be great; houses underground, awnings, shutters, window tint, thermal mass, window size, open windows, window orientation, alluminum foil on windows, and drapes on the windows. Thanks.
the most important thing about heating/cooling is the color of the roof..... a dark roof will help the house maintain heat longer, and a lighter color would mean the heat would escape the house sooner..windows facing the south would keep a home warmer for longer periods of time...foil would reflect light, & therefore heat, and of course drapes, drawn, would keep heat in the home a little longer, too..good luck on your project..!!

At Home: Top 10 for the decade
AT A NEW YEAR'S party I just attended, the banter was predictable.
"What happened to last year?"
"You mean the last decade?"
I nod along lamely, applying the two brain cells I had brought with me. Then someone asks me to think: "What would you say were the biggest trends in home design this past decade?"
Why is it every party has someone who wants to get intellectual?
"Uh, er, are those egg rolls over there?" I dodge, eyeing an hors d'oeuvres tray. But I'm not off the hook. The group of six or so party guests stand waiting.
"We got some nerve," I finally say, which is the best I can do after a glass of champagne on an empty stomach. "Creative courage came out of the closet, and I for one am grateful."
My answer either satisfies or bores the guests enough that they move on. But they leave me and my two brain cells thinking: What were the big design shifts of the last decade?
Back home, I round up my other three brain cells and come up with the 10 best trends I saw in DIY home design in the past 10 years.
