where can I find pictures of all natural backyard arbors, canopies and deck covers built of limbs with vines?
I am looking for ideas for my backyard. I am thinkingtree limbs cemented into the ground with branches for cross members and bamboo or palm fronds for the top. Then add climbing plants to overgrow the structure. Also plan to add a misting system and outdoor speakers.
Do an online search for bentwood trellises and arbors. There's some pretty awesome stuff they do with all those limbs I've been burning!
What kind of trees are good to plant next to a deck?
I have a 3 foot high deck and would like to plant a tree in the area that it bumps out. I am concerned about roots causing problems with the footings. The tree would be planted ~9-10 feet from the house. My house is a one story and I don't want a tree that would have a canopy to hit the house. Do you have any ideas?
BTW: I am zone 6, full sun and clay soil
I like Aristocrat Pears. They are pretty quick growing, really pretty in the spring, and tolerate lots of different soil types.

I covered my deck w/a arbor type shade system, using 2X8 16" 0/c with 1,1/2 " dowel rods through them @ 12" o/c. Planted grapes last spring and couldn't believe how quickly two grape vines covered a 14X 18' roof. Now I have shade in the summer and the sunshine through the French Doors in the winter.
Worked great for me.
How do I figure out rafter angles?
I am making a deck canopy, My rafters are 12 ft long and I am making a 6 inch slope how do I know what angle to cut the wood at the ends so they are vertical.
Is your total rise 6" over the 12' span? If that's the case, your pitch is .5/12, and your angle on the rafter tail is about 2 degrees. A Speed Square will help you to lay this out. Hope this helps.

Memphis airport unveils 'green' plans for Ground Transportation Center
The Memphis and Shelby County Airport Authority unveiled its $89 million Ground Transportation Center Wednesday at the Memphis Hilton.
The seven-story facility at Memphis International Airport will house parking and rental car operations within walking distance of the main terminal.
Self Tucker Architects Inc. , Looney Ricks Kiss Architects Inc. and Walker Parking Consultants are designing the facility while Flintco Inc. is the general contractor.
By eliminating bus and shuttle traffic between the facility and the terminal, like most airports, it will reduce emissions.
“Some airports have parking garages,” authority chairman Arnold Perl said. “We will not have a parking garage; we’ll have a ground transportation center.”
The center, which will be located between the existing three-level parking deck and the new 336-foot airport traffic control tower, will have 4,500 public parking spaces and 2,500 return spaces for rental cars.
