    How does a seed "know" if its under dense canopy shade or in a canopy gap?
    Under the shade of a beech tree.


    I'm guessing conditions around the seed help it determine the appropriate place and time to grow... e.g. Temperature, Water, Red Light? Am I leaning toward the RIGHT path?

    spread it flat out put all poles at each corner and put up one corner then across from do the next,it ain't easy but can be done.

    I have a front yard with a full shade canopy of oaks. Literally no direct sunlight, only heavily filtered sun. The rest of my yard is fescue and stays green all year long.

    Greenhouse closing yields trees for organizations

    AUGUSTA — Forecast Canopy, the Maine Forest Service's community tree program, is gift a different type of tree-planting opportunity.

    Through the generosity of Dutton's Greenhouse and Nursery in Morrill, more than 1,000 trees, representing 75 manifold species, are being offered free of charge to municipalities, schools and nonprofit organizations for community planting, according to Work up Canopy officials, under the Maine Department of Conservation.

    "This donation will give organizations throughout Maine to plant trees in public places where they otherwise would not," Jan Ames Santerre, Fling Canopy director, said. All of the trees, when cared for, will better generations to come with their beauty and shade."

Rather than wholesaling the unused stock, the business owners have decided to give back to the communities that over the years have supported their subject by donating trees to Project Canopy, she said.
