I'm looking for a great canopy for my backyard. Any good suggestions?

I don't have too much area to cover, but would like something that's not going to look too stand-out. Thanks in advance!

I use this (http://www.outdoorcanopies.com/cp1.php ) in my backyard and it looks and works great. That site also gave me a great price :)

Hope this helps!

where can I find pictures of all natural backyard arbors, canopies and deck covers built of limbs with vines?

I am looking for ideas for my backyard. I am thinkingtree limbs cemented into the ground with branches for cross members and bamboo or palm fronds for the top. Then add climbing plants to overgrow the structure. Also plan to add a misting system and outdoor speakers.

Do an online search for bentwood trellises and arbors. There's some pretty awesome stuff they do with all those limbs I've been burning!

Does anyone have any ideas on how to make a cheap canopy or even a place to buy one?

For Valentines Day, I want to set up a canopy in my backyard to set up a night time picnic under it. I want a covering because I want to hang hearts down from it so it looks romantic/pretty while we sit under it. I dont want to spend a lot of money (hardly any at all, which i why i would prefer if sum1 knows how to rig one on your own). Any suggestions?

You can find inexpensive ones at the Big Lots. But you can make your own and select a fabric to coordinate with your theme from the fabric store. If you want it to be semi-permanent, select a fabric like Sunbrella or outdoor canvass (JoAnnes carries a fairly wide variety of colors). You can make grommet holes in the corners and string it to trees. Or you can use 4 x 4 wooden posts that you can sink into concrete connect them together with treated 2 x 4s to form a frame and staple the fabric to the top. Another romantic looking canopy is easy to construct with a table round suspended by rope and tied to a tree covered with fabric. Or you can go to an import store, like Cost Plus or Pier One, and purchase mosquito netting and use the net or add your own fabric to the frame. Hope some of these ideas work for your application.

How do I build a backyard shelter for the patio?

I don't want an octagonal or hexagonal gazebo. I just need to make a square shelter. No walls needed. Or, I could use a square gazebo. Something simple and to keep the sun and rain off.
If you know of any websites or books/videos than would be helpful on this specific topic, please let me know.

It seems to me that it would be very simple to do. Kind of like a canopy bed, but without the bed, and, with an angled canopy/roof so that the rain will run off. But, if there's a tried-and-true way to do it, I would appreciate the info. :)

The section of the patio that I want to cover is 10' x 10'. I will make it out of cedar.

Thanks

We built ours using a Sunset book that is sold at the Lowes, Perogals, Patio Covers and Gazebos. It gives very detailed instructions and material lists for a wide variety of different patio covers. We actually combined the plans of two different designs to meet our needs and it was very simple to build, but it took this husband and wife team a few more days to complete the project than the book indicated.

Solid canopy for patio table....where to purchase one?

I am looking for a good solid canopy to put over my outdoor patio table and chairs (six chairs with table) and umbrella.......I bought one but it was cheap and had aluminum poles...I want something more solid...any good websites where to purchase patio things, as I am redoing our backyard for summer cookouts....thanks in advance

The thing you're talking about might better be bought locally, but here's a site with really nice structures.

As you can see, you can buy things as kits if you aren't in the same area as this company. Maybe they'd sell you plans and you could have it built locally.

This site:

has some handsome structures, but they appear to all be connected to the house. If your patio table is near the house, this might do.

Outdoors delight: Maine triples conserved acreage

Maine's vast backcountry backyard offers outdoors lovers 3.3 million acres set aside from development in recent years, roughly the size of Connecticut, nearly 18 percent of the entire state of Maine. Not everyone is thrilled about the conservation - foes say it takes lands off tax rolls and restricts use of snowmobiles - but others revel in the unspoiled playland.

The mountains are pale blue backdrops to shimmering, pristine lakes. Forests of poplar, birch and fir form an almost unbroken canopy from the highlands more than 100 miles to the Down East marshlands.

Snowmobilers take to their trails, and ice fishermen find their best spots. When the weather's warmer, hikers, kayakers, mountain bikers, campers and hunters enjoy the land, lakes and rivers within. It's theirs to use, and it's getting bigger.

For generations, Maine residents and visitors took for granted their access to this land as guests of the paper companies and other big landowners who allowed recreational use. But that long-standing tradition was threatened as the land was sold, broken into smaller parcels and taken over by developers.
